Abstract
474,564. Drawing - dies. HAYES, J. March 9, 1937, No. 6911. [Class 83 (iv)] A drawing-die comprises a group of four die blocks, three or all of which are adjustable in a frame, each die block having on one side and one end thereof sliding surfaces which engage the two adjacent blocks, the block being symmetrical and interchangeable end for end or side for side. A frame 1 supports guide blocks 2, 3 engaging die sections 6, 9, which together with sections 14, 28 form the die aperture 8. The sections have convex faces 10, 11 and concave end faces 12, 13, and are interchangeable and changeable end for end and side for side to present further working surfaces. The sections are adjusted from micrometric controls through spur gearing 20, 19 or worm gearing 23, and screwed shafts 16, 22 respectively. The section 6 may be integral with the block 2 or the frame 1. A mandrel is used in conjunction with the die for drawing tubes or partly hollow sections. The sections may be of steel hardened by casehardening, cementation, or by chromium or other electro deposit, and may be provided with inserts.
