[Class 126] In a domestic oven heated either by the hot gases from a solid fuel fire or by those from a gas burner as required, the burner d is arranged beneath the lower edge of the front of the oven. The hot gases from the burner d, which is enclosed in a hinged cover i, pass through a slot e into the oven a, and thence through pipes and openings p into a hot-plate chamber k, which communicates through an opening p<1> with the chimney. A flap f, which closes the slot e when the door c is open, is closed when the door is shut by engagement of the door with the tail-piece h. The door also controls a valve controlling the burner. The openings p, p<1> are controlled by plates n pivoted about their lower edges. Lugs r with inclined sides project from the plates n through openings in a slidable bar q which is moved by a pinion and toothedsegment device to cause the plates n to open and close. The rod carrying the toothed segment actuates a second valve controlling the burner a. When the grate b is in use, the hot gases pass partly up the rear flue to the chimney opening 11, and partly through horizontal side flues 12 to vertical side flues, one of which is closed at the top and communicates through the flue 14 with the other vertical flue, which communicates with the horizontal flue 15. Side openings 17 in the plate 16 connect this flue with the space above communicating with the chimney opening. Linked dampers 19, 20 control the openings 17 and the rear flue. Some of the burner gases also pass to the flue 14. If desired, the hot gases in the oven may be discharged directly through openings 30 communicating with the front of the oven casing.
