Abstract
471,643. Foot - measuring appliances. GIUNTINI, B. Oct. 22, 1936, No. 28700. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1935. [Class 17 (iii)] Apparatus for measuring the foot for footwear comprises a crank on a shaft 45 by which, through clutch devices 47, 53 selectively actuated by knobs 50, various independent shafts 3, 4, 5, 6, 110, which control displacements of the rear end 95 of a platform on which the foot is supported for measurement, of a deformable part 97 of the platform under the arch of the foot, and of members 22 adapted to measure the width and contour of the foot at spaced transverse planes along its length. The foot to be measured is placed on a sheet of paper with carbon paper underneath on a carpet 100a of resilient material supported on a platform 95, 96, 97 and, under pressure of the foot, an impression of deformations which may exist is obtained. The shaft 6 is then rotated, by pressing the appropriate button and turning the crank on the shaft 45, to move the heel and toe engaging members, 18, 19, respectively, and bar members 21, by means of right and left-hand screw-threaded portions 7-15 thereon of different pitches, into contact with the foot, a member 21<1> remaining stationary. The amount of rotation of the shaft 6 is indicated by a recording device 54. The heel end portion 95 of the platform is lifted into engagement with the heel of the foot by turning the shaft 110 which raises two rods 101 resting against a table 102 by rack and pinion 108, 109 and levers 104, 107. The right or left-hand end of the deformable part 97 of the platform is then lifted in accordance with the height of the footarch by racks 111 meshing with pinions 112 actuated by either the shaft 3 or the shaft 4 according as to whether a left foot or a right foot is being measured. The part 97 of the platform comprises transverse blades 98 supported by longitudinal blades 99, and is connected to the other parts 95, 96 of the platform by springs 100. The shaft 6 is next actuated to bring, by tapes around drums 61 thereon, abutments 26 carried by U-shaped members 22 slidable in the bar members 21, 21<1> into contact with the foot, the drums 61 being in two inner and outer parts frictionally coupled together, to permit relative movement on contact with the foot. A lever 85 at the side of the apparatus is then moved to rock members 67, to which the members 22 are attached by springs 94, to bring their ends 68 into contact. Bars 69 are then lowered by a lever 71 to move the members 22 vertically to fit tapes 25, carried on spring drums 24, on the foot, the barrels of the drums winding up any excess length of tape. The movements of the tapes 25 are indicated on lugs 35 of drums 34 on the members 22. The drums are subsequently lowered to mark the position of points 27 of the abutment plates 26 on the paper.
