Abstract
471,488. Fluid - pressure brakes. FITT, G., and BARBER, P. M. March 3, 1936, No. 6440. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIII] Means for operating landing-wheel brakes for aircraft include a source of fluid under pressure from which branch two channels 18 19, leading, respectively, to a valve 29 adapted to be closed due to contact of a tail landing- member 21 with the ground and a valve 40 adapted to be closed by movement additional to the normal movement of a throttle control lever 23. As shown, the fluid is supplied through a water separator 12 from an electrically driven air compressor, the separator 12 includes a baffle 13 in a chamber 12 provided with a pressure release valve 14 and connected with a pressure gauge 16. The valve 29 is normally held open against a spring 30 by a plunger 28 contacting with a spring 33 on the tail-member 21 which is rotated about an axis 35 against the action of a spring 36 on contact with the ground. The conical valvemember 40 is disposed in a housing open to the atmosphere as at 42 and connected to the brake cylinders. The lever 23 works in a slot provided with a step 45 and an additional slot 45a to accommodate the additional travel. The brake shoes may be toggle-actuated through a manual control for parking.
