Abstract
471,441. Indicating liquid - levels. KENT, Ltd., G., ARDLEY, W. G., and HILLMAN, M., HILLMAN, L. C., and WARREN, G. F., [Representatives of HILL-. MAN, E. C.]. March 31, 1936, No. 9561. [Class 123 (i)] In apparatus suitable for indicating the depth of water in a river or the like, into the bed of which a spike 2 is driven by means of a rod 3a inserted into a socket 3, a resilient member 1 such as a coil spring, Fig. 1, or rubber tube, Fig. 2, projects upwards and encloses an air tube 6 open at the top. The member 1 carries a housing 8, Fig. 1, having short downwardlydirected tubes 9, or a plug 13 and internally serrated cap 14, Fig. 2. The resilience of the member 1 prevents damage if struck by passing craft, and the tube 6 is protected from silt. The tube 6 extends up the river bank to an indicator comprising an air pump which maintains the tube 6 full of air, and a pressure gauge which indicates the pressure due to the head of water.
