471,059. Delivering material from hoppers. COGGON FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and COGGON, H. F. Feb. 21, 1936, No. 5255. [Class 78 (i)] Apparatus for delivering granular or pulverulent material from containers, of the kind in which a perforated piston either closely fitting the container or having a marginal space round its periphery is operated by fluid-pressure to express the material from the container, is fitted with a piston having the surface of either or both sides other than plain. Thus the under surface of the piston may be triangular, hemispherical or curved in various ways, and in some cases the top surface also may be other than flat. The piston may contact with the walls of the container at selected points only or may have a saw-toothed periphery, while the perforations y may be non-perpendicular to the upper surface. In the form shown in the Figure, the piston d is connected to an upper piston (not shown) in a separate operating cylinder, while the fluid for direct access to the material is admitted through the pipe c.
