Abstract
470,912. Friction clutches. WERSALL, K. J. Dec. 24, 1935, No. 35712. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1934. [Class 80 (ii)] In a centrifugal friction clutch comprising shoes 9 driven by and turnable laterally on driving studs 7 which extend into slots 17 in the shoes, the line of contact 18 of a stud with the leading end of a slot is so inclined that a line 21 perpendicular to and passing through the centre 22 of said contact line passes approximately through the point of action 20 of the 'frictional forces acting on the shoe, whereby the tendency for the lending end of the shoe to rock outwardly is reduced. The slot extends almost-from end to end of the shoe, so that the stud acts near the leading end of the shoe in both directions of rotation. The studs are secured in a rib 6 on a hub 4 secured to a driving sleeve 1 on which the driven drum 11 is journalled. As shown, the studs are arranged radially, their ends 8 being conical. If the heads 8 are cylindrical, the studs are arranged non-radially.
