Abstract
470,705. Seats ; leg -rests. WELLS, E. G. Feb. 15, 1936, No. 4665. [Class 52 (ii)] A leg rest which can be used as a stool comprises a seat or rest member 13, Fig. 1, movably mounted on side members 12 supported from base members 10 by diagonal members 14, 15 which are pivoted to the members 12, 10 so that the whole framework can be moved to tilt the seat member 13 which is then used as a leg rest; the pivots are so arranged that the leg rest can be collapsed to a flat state. The framework can be locked with the members 12 horizontal by means of hook members 17 which co-operate with a cross-bar 16 between the members 15 to hold the framework rigid. The hooks 17 may be secured to a flap 20 pivoted at the ends of the members 12 so that when the flap is turned up the hooks 17 are disengaged from the bar 16 and the flap 20 can form a foot rest. When the flap is turned down and the frame is locked with the rest portion 13 horizontal, this portion can then be slidden along the members 12 to cover the flap 20 and act as a seat. Alternatively, the member 13 can be divided and the hooks 17 secured to one part of this member. Undue tilting of the frame and member 13 is prevented by cross-bars 11. In a modification, Fig. 5, a seat or leg rest portion 13 is slidably supported on side members 12 which are pivotally connected through diagonal members 14, 15 to arcuate base members 25. The whole can then tilt on the members 25, the portion 13 acting as a leg rest. When the device is to be used as a stool the framework and seat portion 13 are turned to the position shown in Fig. 8 and portion 13 is moved on to the horizontal side members 12 to act as the seat of the stool thus formed. Specification 7202/10, [Class 52 (ii)], is referred to.
