Abstract
Indiarubber articles are decorated by applying thereto a transfer having the design in an ink prepared with a basis of indiarubber and containing ingredients rendering it readily vulcanizable, subjecting the article to vulcanization while the support for the transfer is still in place, and then removing the transfer; alternatively, the inscription can be printed directly on to the article with an ink containing indiarubber and vulcanizers. The design may be printed or stencilled on the support, preferably paper, or the support may be completely covered and the design formed by cutting or otherwise shaping. The support may be provided with a coating of cellulose acetate, vinyl resin, benzyl cellulose, or the like dissolved in acetone, benzene, or ethyl alcohol to prevent it from sticking to the article during vulcanization. According to an example, the ink may consist of indiarubber, zinc oxide, magnesium carbonate, titanium white, colouring-matter, sulphur, a vulcanizing accelerator, and xylol.
