Abstract

A composition for use in the interlayer of compound glass comprises polyvinyl acetate and at least one solvent having a boiling point between 100 and 200 DEG C. and an evaporation velocity greater than 30 units. The evaporation velocity is determined by dividing the time of evaporation of 0,5 c.c. of the solvent dropped upon filter paper, by the time of evaporation of the same quantity of ether. Diacetone alcohol, methylcyclohexanone, methylglycol acetate, furfurol, and hydrocarbons, alcohols, glycols and their esters and ethers having the required boiling range and evaporation velocity may be used, and other solvents, diluents, plasticizers, colouring matters, fillers, and opacifying media, e.g. tin oxide or bone ash, may be added. For example, a small quantity of diacetone alcohol is added to an ethyl acetate solution of polyvinyl acetate and di-methylglycol phthalate, the solution is applied to a glass sheet, the ethyl acetate is removed in vacuo, and the coated glass united with a similarly-coated glass sheet under heat and pressure.
