469,296. Hat - finishing machines. CASSE, M. Oct. 8, 1936, No. 27315. [Class 63] Pouncing and finishing.-A machine for finishing by pouncing, brushing, or velveting comprises a tool having a movement in a closed path in a plane, a small plane surface pressing a portion of the hat or hat body against the tool, the rest of the work being free, and mechanism feeding the work so that overlapping portions of the hat surface are successively pressed against the tool. An abrasive pad 2 is carried at the end of an arm 1 pivoted to a crank-pin 11 and restrained by a pivoted link 7 so that each point in the pad describes a substantially elliptical path. The crank-pin is driven by an electric motor 13. A hat body 5 is pressed against the work by a plane surface 16 carried by an arm 17 pivoted at 18 and urged against the work by a spring 23 when a treadle 26 is held down. The arm carries a feed roll 28 co-operating with a driven roll 30 at the end of an arm 31 pivoted about a driving pinion 34 and urged against the work by a spring to a limit determined by a stop. In a modification, the work pressing surface 16 is substituted by a belt 53 supported by a plane surface 56 and rollers 54, 55, and driven by a roller 57. In another modification, the pad 2 is carried on a link 46 pivoted to two cranks 49, 50 driven at the same speed. A tube connected to a suction fan surrounds the shaft 1 to remove dust.
