Abstract
Elastic artificial masses in granular form are prepared by the interaction of polysulphides with dihalogenides of paraffin hydrocarbons in an aqueous medium in the presence of a watersoluble alkyl cellulose, the quantity of alkyl cellulose being preferably less than 1 per cent. In examples, a solution of methyl or ethyl cellulose in water is added to an aqueous solution of sodium tetrasulphide, the mixture is heated to 40--50 DEG C., and dichlorethane is allowed to flow in so slowly that the temperature does not rise above 78--80 DEG C. The yellow granular product obtained is washed with hot water. Alternatively, the alkyl cellulose may be directly dissolved in the polysulphide solution. The dried granular product can be rolled into sheets.
