Abstract

468,782. Vehicle head-lamps. BAILEY, A. H. Dec. 10, 1935, No. 34127. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a vehicle headlamp in which the beam is spread laterally to one or both sides, the rim of the reflector is wholly or partly inclined, as in Fig. 7, or cut away rearwardly, as at 6 in Fig. 3, and the reflector and lamp casing are so shaped that they extend forwardly above the light source 4 and the latter is visible over the rim 7 of the reflector when viewed from one or both sides of the lamp from points substantially in the focal plane of the reflector. A portion 5 of the side of the bulb 4 remote from the cut away portion 6 may be silvered or otherwise made reflecting, and a supplementary filament may be located approximately at the focal point of such reflecting portion. The front glass is bent to conform to the cut away portion of the lamp casing, or a normal front glass 2a may be fitted to a lamp casing 3 having an inclined front.
