Abstract
468,338. Screw propellers. GETEFO GES. FUR TECHNISCHEN FORTSCHRITT. Dec. 14, 1936, No. 34324. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1935. [Class 114] A screw-propeller boss has secured thereto a metal disc which is adhesively attached to one side of a rubber ring, a metal disc on the other side being bolted to a member fast on the driving shaft. An outer shell 5 engages grooves 4 in the boss 3 of the propeller 2 and has a conical face to which a disc 7 is bolted. The disc is stuck to a rubber ring 8 and on the opposite side thereof is stuck a metal disc 9 which is bolted to a ring 10 in keyed engagement with the shaft 1. The ring has projections on its periphery which enter long recesses in the shell 5, the ends of the recesses forming abutments to positively limit the relative rotary movement of the two parts. A thrust bearing 14 and journal bearing 16, the latter being mounted on a rubber ring 17, are provided. In an alternative form, the rubber ring 8 and associated metal discs 24, 26 are mounted in front of the propeller, the driving disc 24 being bolted to a flange 22 on a sleeve keyed to the shaft. The boss is fitted over this sleeve, an oilless bush 29 being interposed.
