Abstract
468,104. Skis. BADAN, A. July 25, 1936, Nos. 20640 and 20641. Convention dates, March 30 and June 9: [Class 132 (i)] A ski 1 is provided with a sole 2 of hard material for example, celluloid, formed by pressing, rolling, casting or cutting, with ratchet teeth, the locking faces 6 of which are directed to the rear of the ski to prevent backward motion thereof. The teeth are formed by series of intersecting recesses inclined to the longitudinal axis of the ski. Thus a series of herring-bone teeth 4a, 4b may be provided on each side of the usual longitudinal groove 3, Fig. 1, the apices of the teeth facing forwards, or by two cross-cutting operations 4a, 4b pyramidal teeth, Fig. 4, may be formed, the non-locking faces of which may be convex. The herring-bone teeth may increase in depth from the ski-edge towards the centre thereof, Fig. 6, whereby secondary edges 8 are formed. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8, two series of herring-bone teeth are provided on each side of groove 3, the height of the holding face 6 of each tooth being constant for the major portion of its length and then decreasing gradually until the tooth ends at edge 8<a>. The central groove 3 may be replaced by a further series of herring-bone teeth, and the rows of teeth may be displaced longitudinally with respect to one another. The teeth do not extend to the edge of the ski in these examples so that known reinforcing edges may be used.
