[Class 81 (ii).] Dental burs are formed with rounded smooth points which at their roots are at least as large as the adjacent surface of the cutting portions of the burs in order to prevent forward drilling or the formation of steps.. Fig. 1 shows one form in which a cylindrical bur 1 is formed with a smooth end 2. In modifications the bur is of obconical form with a parabolic smooth part, or is of egg shape. The cutting surface may merge directly intothe smooth end surface or, as shown in Fig. 8, may be separated therefrom by a groove 7. The burs may be formed in one piece or with a separate end portion set into the body of the bur.
