Abstract

468,040. Counting-apparatus. RUTHER. FORD, J. G., and WARREN, T. R. Dec. 28, 1935, No. 35885. [Class 106 (i)] In a system for summating impulses from several sources, each source has associated impulse and resetting relays interconnected so that impulses from the sources may be transmitted to a counter over a common circuit without interference. As shown in the Figure impulse sources A ... D, e.g. electricity meters, are adapted to operate corresponding impulse relays E<1> ... E<4> over corridor circuits 3, 4 which are opened upon each operation of the impulse relays by resetting relays Fl ... F4 connected in parallel across the circuit 17 of a common counter 18. When the contact 1 of a source changes over, relay E is operated to isolate other sources at contacts 9, 10 and to close the counting circuit over the corresponding relay F which operates its contacts 5 to release the impulse relay and then allow the counting of impulses from other sources if they are in an operative condition. In a modification, provision is made for counting impulses of opposite polarity and having opposite additive effects on the counter. In this arrangement, an additional accumulator switch is provided which when positive impulses are received remains in a limit position to connect up the counter. Upon receipt of negative impulses the switch is operated in the opposite direction and the counter is disconnected. The counter is again connected only when the effect of the received negative impulses is nullified by further positive impulses. The stepping of the switch may be effected by relays and a thermal relay may be provided which is operated to disconnect the supply in the event that the counter circuit is closed for a time longer than the normal time period of an impulse. The counter may be located at a distance and operated by wireless.
