Abstract

468,018. Cutting potatoes. SENGISSEN, H. Aug. 24, 1936, No. 23256. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1935. [Class 5 (i)] Potatoes are fed from a hopper 2 on to a conveyer 3 provided with pushpieces 7 that carry them through a straightening device A consisting of a conical set of rods 8 tapering towards its discharge end. The rods are connected through ball-and-socket joints to shafts rotated by pinion 11 and at their lower ends are formed of spring strips to permit the passage of the potatoes. The cutter consists of two sets of knives 16 arranged in V-shape through which the potatoes are forced by the push-pieces 7. Each push-piece is mounted on two pairs of rollers riding on separate guide tracks, the rear track being shaped to lift the push-piece clear of the knives after the potato has been cut. The potato chips together with the waste fall into a trough 17 that directs them to a separating device comprised by a rotating cylinder formed of rods 18 having a facing of vulcanized rubber or the like. The chips are delivered from the end of this device, the waste pieces falling between the rods to the bottom of the casing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification in which the straightening device is formed by a number of rods supported at their upper ends by ball joints and at their lower ends by brackets carried by arms adjustably connected and supported by levers drawn to each other by springs. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
