Abstract

Molecular compounds of urea with mono- or di-saccharides are obtained by fusing the components together in equimolecular proportions or by evaporating an aqueous solution containing equimolecular proportions of the components. An example is given in which equimolecular proportions of urea and crystalline glucose are fused together at water-bath temperature. The products are useful for finishing, weighting and otherwise treating wool, cotton, artificial silk and other textile materials, and examples are given in which (1) reeled viscose silk is treated with an aqueous solution of the compound of urea with glucose, and then centrifuged and dried; (2) wool gaberdine is padded with a liquor containing paraffin wax, alumina, and the compound of urea with sucrose; (3) cotton goods are sprayed on the rear side with a liquor containing soluble starch and the compound of urea with glucose. The manufacture of compounds of urea with arabinose, galactose and levulose is mentioned, as well as the use of the urea-sugar compounds in association with glue. Specifications 251,993, [Class 42 (i)], 262,830, 298,491, 318,469, and 318,978, [all in Class 15 (ii)], are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Berichte der deutschen chemischen Gesellschaft, Volume 59 (1926), pages 69-79 and Biochemical Journal, Volume 20 (1926), pages 195-209.ALSO:Molecular compounds of urea with mono- or di-saccharides are obtained by fusing the components together in equimolecular proportions or by evaporating an aqueous solution containing equimolecular proportions of the components.
