Abstract

467,696. Batteries. OWENS-ILLINOIS GLASS CO. April 24, 1936, No. 11746. Convention date, April 25, 1935. [Class 53] An accumulator plate is provided on each face with glass wool or other inorganic fibrous material which is partly embedded in the paste. This may be done by rolling, or as shown in the Figure by first applying a layer of glass wool 12 to a layer of paste 16 and then pressing the paste 16 into contact with the pasted plate 17. The layer 16 may be of sufficient thickness to supply all the active material required for the plate in which case it is pressed into an empty grid. The glass wool may be mixed with a binder such as rubber before being applied to the plate. The glass may be in the form of felted woven or knitted pads.
