Abstract

362,120. Galvanic batteries. YOUNG ACCUMULATOR CO. (1929), Ltd., Burling- ton Works, Arterial Road, and HARBORNE, R. S., 102, Chestnut Grove, both in New Malden, Surrey. Nov. 7, 1930, No. 33567. [Class 53.] Separators.-Storage battery electrodes are placed in envelopes of porous ebonite with which are used layers of glass-wool, asbestos, cellulose, textile fabric, porous wood, &c. which may be cemented to the envelopes. The envelopes may be made by securing together the edges of two porous ebonite plates by cementing in strips of bitumen, soft rubber, porous ebonite, sponge rubber, &c. The Figure shows the electrodes of a storage battery separated by glass wool layers 1 and porous ebonite plates 2 which are secured together round their edges by sponge rubber strips 3. Additional layers of glass wool may be placed between the plates 2 and the outer electrodes. In a further modification the separator comprises a porous ebonite envelope containing layers of glass wool and porous wood.
