Abstract
467,456. Differential gearing. FREDERICKSON, C. E. April 21, 1936, No. 11412. [Class 80 (ii)] A gearless differential comprises a driving double dog-clutch ring 25 and two similar driven dog-clutch rings 10 which are adapted to be separated to allow differential action by interengaging cams 11. The driving-ring is as shown in Figs. 15 and 18, and its clutch dogs 26 are preferably conical and undercut at the driving faces. One of the driven rings 10 is shown in Figs. 20 and 21. The conical clutch dogs are at 14; these are splined at 6 to engage bosses 4 on the part axles 1, 2, Fig. 15 ; and the cams are shown at 11 which project through the circular opening 30 of the ring 25 and intermesh with the cams 11 of the other driven ring 10. The driven rings 10 are kept from separating too far when one of them is overrunning by cross keys 34 with spring- urged sleeves 53 on their ends. A form is described in which the separating cams project at intervals through windows in a driving disc.
