Abstract

Dihydrofollicle hormone is prepared by a modification of the process described in the parent Specification which comprises subjecting follicle hormone or preparations containing follicle hormone in aqueous alkaline solution to the action of finely divided metal or metal alloys which evolve hydrogen with alkaline aqueous solutions. Metals mentioned are aluminium and nickel aluminium alloys. In examples: (1) a crude product from the urine of mares having an activity of 300,000 mouse units per gram is dissolved in 5 per cent aqueous alkali lye, filtered, and reduced with aluminium metal until no reaction for the keto group could be detected; (2) alpha follicle hormone is dissolved in 5 per cent caustic soda lye, and Raney catalyst added slowly. After the reduction is complete the separated nickel is filtered off and the dihydrofollicle hormone precipitated by acidification.
