Abstract

In a process for the production of calcined phosphates by heating raw phosphates together with alkali metal compounds and other reagents such as silica or lime, organic compounds of the alkali metals are employed. Potassium or sodium formates, oxalates, tartrates, or acetates may be used. The organic compounds are more reactive than alkali carbonates, and when potassium compounds are used, the loss of potassium by volatilization is less.
