Abstract
465,127. Current and pressure meters. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., TRENCHAM, H., and WILKINSON, K. J. R. Oct. 31, 1935, Nos. 30124 and 32336. [Class 37] Circuit conditions, particularly the re-striking voltage of a circuit-breaker, are determined by injecting into the circuit recurrent surge currents at the source of energy, for example, an alternator or across the open terminals of a circuit-breaker, the resulting voltage surges being measured on a cathode ray oscillograph. The surge currents may be produced by triggering a grid controlled arc discharge device at the desired section of a sine wave current applied to a mutual inductance. Where the surge currents are injected at a point away from the circuit-breaker, a half-wave rectifier is connected across the open breaker terminals. The Figure shows a transformer with three secondary windings 8 .. 10, the winding 8 being connected to the scanning coil 13 on the time base circuit. The winding 9 has a shunt resistance 15 .. 17 with tappings to the cathode and anode and accelerator electrodes. The winding 10 feeds the discharge tube 19 through resistance and capacitance connections, the output being connected to the circuit-breaker 1 and deflecting plates of the oscillograph.
