Abstract

The earth fault current detector uses a current transformer whose secondary winding is connected to an electrical circuit. The circuit includes a capacitor (13), which compensates for the current transformers magnetising current, a diode (14) and another capacitor (15). In parallel with the capacitor (15) is connected a first branch of a parallel circuit having a Zener diode (16) in series with a resistance (19). A second branch of the circuit includes an electroluminescent diode (17) and a thyristor (18). The trigger of the thyristor is connected to the common point of the Zener diode (16) and the resistance (19). Under normal conditions there is no current induced in the current transformer and the diode (17) is extinguished. Under fault conditions a voltage is produced at the terminals (12) of the current transformer.
