Abstract

464,907. Yielding couplings. CLARKE, CHAPMAN, & CO., Ltd., WOODESON, W. A., and MIDGLEY, W. Nov. 9, 1936, No. 30480. Addition to 464,099. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXX] The apparatus according to the parent Specification is provided with means by which it can be ensured, if desired, that the yielding drive is automatically put out of action after the spring 3 has been wound up. As shown, the barrel 1 is formed with a ring of ratchet teeth 10 with which co-operates a spring-pressed pawl 11, the arrangement being such that when the spring has been wound up and the direct drive established by the lugs 7, 8 and arm 9, the barrel 1 is locked against return movement relatively to the driving wheel 2. Screw and nut adjusting devices 15, 16 are provided to permit the pawl 11 to be held out of operative position when the locking of the barrel to the driving wheel is not desired.
