Abstract
464,695. Time - alarm signals. FERRANTI, Ltd., and GRUNDY, E. Oct. 23, 1935, No. 29198. [Class 118 (ii)] [Also in Group XVIII] In an electric clock, means associated with a rotating member make and break the circuit of an electric lamp in the clock at predetermined times (e.g. 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.), said lamp shining through part 4 of the inner bezel 5 and being operated by current derived from the current driving the clock. A secondary winding 2, additional to the winding 1 which energizes the electric motor driving the clock, lights the low voltage lamp 3 which illuminates the dial through an opal glass section 4 of the ring 5. Winding 2 is connected at one end to a stud 7 and at the other end, through contacts 20, 21, to a bent bracket 6 into which the lamp 3 is screwed. The tip contact of the lamp meets a tongue carrying a stud 9 which contacts, through a hole in bracket 6, with the stud 7 mounted in, but insulated from, a member 8 attached to the clock frame. Guides 10 on the bracket 6 enable the latter to slide on the member 8 and the contacts 7 and 9 may be separated by swinging an insulated tongue 11 between them. The contact 20 is on a lever 17 pivoted at 18 to a bell-crank 15 which is itself pivoted at 16 and bears against a cam 13 on a spindle 14 rotating once in twenty-four hours. A spring 19 tends to thrust lever 17 and the left end of the bell-crank apart. As the cam 13 rotates, the lever 17 snaps off the high part of the cam and closes the contacts 20, 21. Subsequently, the upper limb of the bell-crank 15 snaps off this high part and opens the contacts 20, 21.
