Abstract
464,479. Illuminated signs. SIMMS MOTOR UNITS, Ltd., and CURRIN, S. A. Oct. 16, 1935, No. 28637. [Class 3 (ii)] A sign comprises a casing which is divided into three compartments arranged side-by-side and is provided with a front panel built up of three sections each arranged in front of one of the compartments, the centre section having a translucent window through which a sign panel mounted in the centre compartment is viewed, and the two end sections having translucent windows, and means being provided for illuminating the three compartments. In the embodiment shown, the sign is in the form of a vehicle number plate and comprises a casing 1 having a front panel built up of sections 2, 3, 4 and being divided into three compartments by partitions 12, 13 which secure a number plate 16 in position at the back of the centre compartment. Each section comprises a frame provided with inturned edges 5 slidably engaging the edge 6 of the casing, the edge 5 of the centre compartment and the corresponding portion of the edge 6 preferably being slotted as shown so that only a small sliding movement is necessary to remove the centre section. The section 2 supports a glass panel 7 through which the number plate is viewed, while the end sections have windows 10, 11 of red glass which constitute the normal red tail light of the vehicle and a " stop light " controlled by the driver. Alternatively, one of these end windows may be divided into two parts, the outer portion comprising the "stop light" and the inner portion the tail light. The casing is mounted in a recess in the vehicle and is formed with a bead 23 acting as a positioning stop. Specification 464,478 is referred to.
