[Class 120 (iii)] In a coiler top the hinged cover a, Fig. 3, and the hinged structure d carry- 'ing the calender rollers are provided with catches which operate to ensure automatic locking on opening and provide for unlocking from the outside. The cover a carrying the sliver-guide and inlet mouth is hinged at a<1> to a pivotal bar b<1>, Fig. 1, carried in a fixed bracket b<2> secured to the base plate b. A cranked locking catch c is pivoted at c<1> to the underside of the cover a and when the cover is fully lifted the nose c<3> of the catch c will lock behind a notch c<4> on the bracket b<2>. The catch c is weighted or spring-actuated to take up the locking position and is disengaged by depressing a trigger c<5> which projects through a slot c<6> in the cover a. The structure d which supports the calender rollers and driving gear therefor is mounted by lugs d<x> on the stud b<1> and when fully opened is supported by a lever e notched at e<1> mounted on a pivot stud e<2> having an outside handle e<5> and which is weighted or spring-actuated to take up the supporting position when the structure d is sufficiently lifted. To disengage the lever e the member d is raised slightly and then the lever e is moved back from the plane of Fig. 1. When supporting the member d, the near end of the base of the lever e rests on the bracket e<3>.
