[Class 31 (i)] A grooving device, particularly for tyres, comprises a cutter carriage movable over a track which is pivoted on a work-supporting frame. The tyre groover shown can be adjusted to cut oblique grooves symmetrically, short or complete circumferential grooves or transverse grooves The grooving tool 55 of channel section is secured to a carriage 41 slidable on a curved track 29 and operable by a hand lever 60 connected thereto by a link 63 ; the lever 60 is movable between the full and dotted line positions in Fig. VII as determined by stop screws 67, 67<1>. The tool 55 is vertically adjustable by a knurled nut 51 and yieldable against a spring. The track 29 is secured to a pivot pin 26 rotatable in an arm 18 slidable on a cross-bar 171 of a frame 17 which is pivoted at 16 on a support 12 slidable on a bar 10 clamped to a cross-member 5 of the frame 6. A stop 20 co-operates with the cross-member 5 to hold the frame 17 horizontal. The pivot pin 26 carries non-rotatably a sleeve 30 having depending bevelled stop lugs 31 to co-operate with bevelled stops 25 on the arm 18. Vertical adjustment of the sleeve 30 by a knob 35 varies the amount of angular movement of the track 29 to vary the obliqueness of the grooves. The groover is fixed for cutting circumferential grooves by screwing down the sleeve 30 so that one lug 31 engages a notch 39, and transverse grooves by both lugs 31 engaging behind the lugs 25. A cam 28 on the track 29 co-operates with leaf springs 37 on the arm 18 to hold the track yieldably in its end positions, the track being swung round by the handle 60. The tyre is rotated by a roller 2 (a) continuously by a handle 70 to cut a circumferential groove as described in Specification 411,184 or (b) by a handle 71 step by step under the control of a ratchet wheel 72 and pawl 77, adjustment of stroke being obtained by a screw 74.
