Abstract
462,837. Converters. MULLIN, G. A. Oct. 7, 1935, No. 27600. [Class 72] A fixed cylindrical converter C, which is inclined to the horizontal, is lined with refractory fire brick and is provided with two rows of twyers L in the sides of the converter and twyers K in the bottom, both sets of twyers being connected to pipes S connected to a blast chamber A. An oxygen supply chamber is connected to the blast chamber and the supply of oxygen to the blast is regulated by a valve in the pipe connecting this chamber to the blast chamber. Near the exit of the converter is provided a slag skiming wall Y which directs the slag into a channel T in a chamber R, and then into a ladle Z. The purifier metal passes off through a channel J to a ladle X, any slag passing off with the metal being skimmed off by a skimmer X<1>, placed in the tube J, and directed by a pipe M into the pipe X.
