Abstract

462,059. Cutting metals by blowpipe. PITT, M. Oct. 14, 1935, No. 28292. [Class 83 (iv)] Relates to a blow-pipe machine for cutting metal, of the type having a tracer and blow-pipe respectively carried by corresponding arms of a bifurcated frame pivotally connected to a frame which is pivoted to the foundation and consists in providing counterbalancing means for the tracer blow-pipe &c. The means for applying pressure to the tracer is constructed to give a constant pressure. As shown in Fig. 1, the arms 9 which support the tracer 10 and blow-pipe 11 are carried beyond the vertical frame member 8 and provided with a member 14 which balances the weight of the arms 8, tracer 10, blow-pipe 11 and motor 15. The means for applying pressure to the tracer is shown in Fig. 5. Depending plates 25 house a frame 27 of U- section, one face of which is continued as a metal strip 28 bearing on a flange 30 of a slidable hollow spindle 19 supporting the fork 18, carrying the tracer wheel 17. A universal joint 22, and worm gearing 20, 21 transmit motion to the tracer wheel. The metal strip 28 is forked at 29 to bear on the flange 30. A spring 33 is anchored at one end 32 and at the other is attached to the U-shaped frame 27 by adjustable means 34, 35. The frame is pivoted at 31.
