Abstract
449,993. Grinding and polishing lenses &c. MOORE, J. A., 20, Red Lion Street, Clerkenwell, London. Oct. 25, 1935, No. 29545. [Class 60] In a machine for grinding and polishing lenses or other curved surfaces, the tool A is mounted on a driving spindle B, which may be adjustable vertically, to compensate for wear of the tool, by a pair of V-blocks, and the glass blank C is carried by a holder D secured in a socket E by a screw F. The socket is carried by a gimbal or Cardan joint G pivoted in a bearing H non-rotatably carried by an arm J pivoted at K to the machine frame so that it can be swung back to change the lens holder. In order to position the lens on the tool, the arm J rests on a stop L, which may be adjustable, and the screw F is tightened whilst the blank is on the tool ; the stop is then withdrawn. The position of the pivot K is adjustable to suit the curvature of the surface.
