Abstract
461,959. Vibratory mechanism; spring motors ; safety razors. FERNBERG, E. B. July 29, 1935, No. 21454. [Class 80 (iv)] [Also in Groups XIV and XXVI] The blade of a mechanical razor is vibrated together with the body of the razor by the rotation of an unbalanced weight in a plane at right angles to that of the blade derived from a train of gear wheels operated by a spiral spring or springs, the whole of the driving mechanism being contained in the body of the razor. The latter comprises a case 11 and a knurled sleeve 12, on turning which a barrel 23 is rotated and a spring 19 is wound by the pull on a lug 21a against its anchor 21 ; a coupling sleeve 18 is then turned to wind a spring 20 which is anchored at 22a on a barrel 24 carrying a bevel gear 26 in mesh with a pinion 27 connected to the train of gear wheels. The latter are supported on a plate 15 secured at 16 to the case 11 and at 17a to a spindle 17. The end pinion 39a carries the unbalanced weight 40. The sleeve 12 carries an eccentric pin 94, Fig. 5, adapted to enter an eccentric bush 93 on the barrel 23. Reverse rotation is prevented by the engagement of a spring- pressed pawl 53 with a ratchet 51 formed on the case 11. The blade holder is screwed to the end 13 of the case 11. If three springs are used the arrangement of barrels 23, 24 and anchors 21, 22, 63 is as shown in Fig. 6, a thrust washer 25 being provided between the barrels as before. A single spring may be used. Various ways of utilizing the energy of the pinion 39 are described. In Fig. 9, a three-lobed cam 104 engages the ends of a pivoted yoke 111 carrying a weight 113. In Fig. 11, a plate 141 pivoted at 142 to the base plate 15 carries a weight 143 which is rotated by the pinion 39. Studs 147, carried by the plate 141 strike blows on lugs 145 on the plate 15. The blade holder may be coupled to the case 11 by a resilient block so that it is vibrated thereby but in opposite phase.
