Abstract

461,383. Electromagnets. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. Jan. 31, 1936, No. 2999. Convention date, Feb. 26, 1935. [Class 35] [Also in Group XL] In a searchlight used for signalling purposes the igniter carbon is carried by a two-part brass and steel rod 26 surrounded at its lower end 26<1> by a solenoid 27, which, when energized, withdraws the igniter 15. The rod 26 is connected to a link 34 pivoted to the frame of the light and as a consequence the igniter has a curvilinear movement as shown at 36 to transfer the arc to the main carbon 3. The solenoid core is doubly coned so that the rod end 26<1> may move freely to allow the curved movement.
