461,076. Valves and electric switches fitted with locks. FEATHERSTONE, W. H. Aug. 9, 1935, No. 22487. [Class 135] A device for preventing the unauthorized starting of the engines of motor-propelled vehicles comprises a combined petrol tap and ignition switch fitted with a lock so arranged that the cock is opened when the key is rotated in one direction and remains open when the key is rotated in the opposite direction, a handle, inoperative while the key is in the lock, being provided for closing the cock. The petrol cock 1, preferably comprising a conical plug engaging a cock seating is provided at the rear end with a spindle 9 carrying two arms 30, 38 and at the front end with a spindle having a squared part 10 carrying a collar 12 and a cylindrical part 11. The valve closing handle 14 is loosely mounted on the part 11, being held against removal by a screw 16, and carries a pin 15 adapted to co-operate with a projection on the collar 12. Access to the screw 16 is hindered by a cover piece 17 held in place by a screw 18. The collar 12 is also provided with a ratchet tooth 24 adapted to be engaged by a pawl 23 on a lever 21, when the lever is oscillated by the insertion of the key in the lock. A spindle 25 adapted to be rotated by the lock key carries an arm 28 provided with a pin 29 which engages a cam arm on the cock spindle to move the cock to the open position, a spring 31 returning the spindle to its initial position on release of the key. A second cam shaped member 38 on the cock shaft engages a mass of insulating-material on a spring-blade contact 36 to move it into contact with a fixed contact at the same time as the petrol cock is moved to its open position.
