Abstract

460,940. Garment stretchers. NEWTON, A. J. April 23, 1936, No. 11619. [Class 141] A garment stretcher of the folding- frame type is characterized in that spring means are provided whereby the tension of the garment when stretched is yieldingly opposed. The two frames comprise pairs of bowed leaf springs 5 and 6, pivoted to a common transverse member 2, and bridged at their outer ends by transverse members 1 and 3 respectively. The dimensions of the frames are chosen so that when folded over, one may fit within the other. In order to secure the ends of the garment, transverse bars 8 and 9 are fitted to the springs near the outer transverse members 1 and 3. The garment ends are passed round the end members 1 and 3 and are gripped between the stretched portions of the garment and members 8 and 9 respectively. The member 8 is hingedly secured to a transverse bar 11, and the gripping surfaces 8a and 9a of the bars 8 and 9 are covered with rubber 1 or the like. A device 13 combined with a hook 13 enables the two frames to be held in closed position and to be hung up.
