[Class 60] A device for sharpening safety razor blades comprises a frame 1 having a handle 2 and rotatably carrying an abrasive roller 4 geared at 5 to a toothed wheel 6 secured to a spindle 7 rotatable in the frame, the wheel 6 carrying a driving handle 8 and a pin 9. The pin 9 engages a cam 10 on the frame 1, being held thereagainst by a spring 11, so that on rotation of the spindle 7 it also is reciprocated axially. On the spindle is mounted a blade-holder 13 formed with parts 13<a> pressed adjustably on the spindle by bolts and nuts 15, the blade 16 being located on the holder by pins and clamped thereon by a cover plate 18 and nut 19. The spindle 7 has thereon a screw-thread 20 engaged by threads 22 cut in a pin 21, which is mounted in the holder 13 and is adjustable for wear by a nut 23 ; rotation of the reciprocating spindle 7 thus also causes the holder 13, when arrested by contact of the blade with the roller 4, to move along the spindle. The blade is reversed by reversal of the rotation of the wheel 6, and its pressure on the roller 4 is adjusted by adjustment of the nuts 15. The spindle 7 may have intersecting right- and left-handed threads, the holder having a projection which moves in the threads so that the holder reciprocates during rotation of the spindle in one direction ; the roller 4 may be belt-driven, and the device may be mounted on a table by a clamp.
