[Coats 60] An abrasive coated strip or sheet is formed with transverse corrugations extending wholly or partly across the strip, the strip when in use resting with the depths of the corrugations on the periphery of a rotatable element. The strip 21, which may be of paper, cloth, celluloid, &c., may have oblique corrugations 23-28, Figs. 1 and 2, or the corrugations may be formed directly across the strip, or in groups of short corrugations, and in order to produce a strip curved transversely for use on a wheel of the form shown in Fig. 7, wherein the corrugated strip 32 rests on a felt layer 31 on the wheel 30, the corrugations 41 may extend partly or wholly across the strip 42 and are of a depth varying along the corrugations as shown in Figs. 13 and 15. In the production of the corrugated sheet, the backing, coated with adhesive and abrasive grains, is passed, after the adhesive has set, between heated corrugated rollers 36, 37 rotated in opposite directions, one of the rollers having a slightly yielding surface, e.g. of canvas or leather. In the production of transversely curved strips, the coated strip is passed between a curved and corrugated roller and a belt of rubber, leather, &c. which is pressed on to the sheet by a follower wheel.
