Abstract

1489044 Grinding glass BANDO KIKO CO Ltd 21 Jan 1976 02303/76 Addition to 1409516 Heading B3D The glass edge grinding machine described in Specification 1,409,516 has the conveyer belt (4B) or its backing plate (7) modified. The belt may (a) have its cross-section increasing in thickness from its centre to its edges so as to have a concave surface engaging the glass sheet, (b) be flat with a protrudent layer of increasing thickness at its lower portion, or (c) have curved layers at both its edges and, if desired, a further layer at its centre portion, as shown in Figs. 10 to 13. Alternatively, the backing plate 40b, Fig. 19, may be flat and have its lower portion shaped to have increased thickness. The modified belt or backing plate acts to urge the lower portion of the glass sheet into firm contact with the grinding wheels. An embodiment of the machine is also described having twelve grinding units, the first five units grinding the bevel, the sixth unit the lower edge, and the remaining units smoothing and polishing the bevel.
