Description

H. C. SIMONS SAND, EMERY, OR OTHER ABRASIVE PAPER, CLOTH, OR THE LIKE Filed Oct. 16, 1923 Patented July 12, 1927.
UNITED sraresraraur orrica.
HARRY G. SIMONS, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
saun, EMERY, oitornna ABRASIVE rerun, CLOTH, 0B. rim LIKE.
Application filed October 18, 1923. Serial No. 668,794.
My invention consists of sand or emery or other abrasive or gritty rubbing paper, cloth or the like having a backing adapted to have the fingers engage therewith so as to pro: vent the latter from slipping thereon, and thus provide a firm hold of the fingers dur-' ing the working of said paper, cloth or the like on the object to be abraded orrubbcd.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the import-ant inst-rumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understmd that the invention is not limited to the specific dctails shown and described, as long as they are within .the scope of the claim.
Figures 1 and 2 represent views of the opposite faces of a piece of sand, emery or other gritty or abrasive paper or the like embodying my invention.
Figure 3 represents a perspective view of the piece in folded or pad-like condition.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings.
1 designates a piece or sheet of sand, emcry or other gritty or abrasive paper, cloth orthe like,- the gritty material 2 being shown 'only'in part on the working face of the wee.
On the back of the-piece is placed sand, emery or other gritty material held thereon adhesively and arranged in stripes ilezxtending cross shaped from edge to edge of the piece and forming surfaces for the frictional I contact of the fingers therewith from either of the several sides of the piece, and thus while the working face of the piece is ap plied to the article to be rubbed or abraded and worked thereover the fingers may be placed on portions of either of the stripes 3 within convenient reach and so'take' hold of the same whereby the fingers Will not slip thereon or on the smooth portions of the back of the piece and so the rubbing or abra sive action of the material 2 on the face of the sheet on said article may be effectively performed.
As parts of the piece are often torn 0a irregularly suflicient for the size of the article there are formed on the piece the divisional or score lines 4, which in the present case extend at a right angle to each other when the piece is folded, in the present case. in sections of quarters one on the other forming a pad 5 thereof as shown in Figure 3 with the working face inside and so covered and not exposed to the atmosphere or fingering.
A quarter may be torn or cut off for use leaving the remaining three quarters lntactfor future use, A number of padsas thus I formed may be made into a compact bundle in which condition the pads are ready for the market, loose or Wrapped up convenientfor sale, transportation and subsequent handling.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-,
which bi-sect one another whereby the artiole may be readily folded to conceal the coated face of thearticle and to further \i provide sections which may be readily detached asrequired. I HARRY C. SIMONS.
