Abstract
<PICT:0458098/IV/1> Apparatus for steaming threads in cr<\>zepe and other twisting operations, and particularly suitable for use in the process of twisting cellulose acetate threads in the presence of wet steam as described in Specifications 437,019 and 438,590, [both in Group IX], comprises a steam supply chamber 1, a hollow thread member 9, through which thread can be passed, and a connecting member 6 joining them and arranged to supply steam to the thread member. The connecting member or the thread member or both are dimensioned, or made wholly or in part of material of high thermal conductivity, so as to ensure that the steam in the thread member is in a wet condition. An adjustable needle 8 co-operating with a seat, or other similar device, is provided to provide a pressure drop between the steam chamber and the thread member. A series of thread members 9 are preferably disposed on a twisting machine each with its inlet opening in line with a vertical twisting spindle 23 or a guide disposed above the spindle, and are supplied with steam from a single chamber 1. The twisting devices may be of the kind described in Specification 304,806, [Class 120 (ii)]. The apparatus may be employed in the process of stretching travelling threads described in Specification 438,584.
