In the form shown in Fig. 1, the handle 15 is rotatably secured at 16 to the guard 10, and is formed with an oblong cam 17, a corresponding slot being formed in the blade which is passed along the handle and over the cam. The handle is then turned through a right-angle to flex and clamp the blade against the underside of the guard. The latter is bent down at the sides which are slotted at 13 so that the cutting edges of the blade protrude. In another form, Fig. 3, the handle is hollow and movable axially and rotatably about a fixed stem 22. When the blade has been passed over the cam 17 the handle is pushed towards the guard and carries with it the cam 17, which is then rotated by a pin 26 and helical part 25 of a slot 24. The handle is then rotated whereupon a pin 29 on the stem engages a helical part 28 of a slot 27 in the handle and forces the cam towards the guard to flex and clamp the blade. In Fig. 6, clamps 33 pivoted at 34 to a bracket 32 fast to the guard are moved down upon the blade by means of links 37, a revoluble yoke 35, and a screw connection between the handle and a spindle 38 carrying the yoke. In another form pivoted longitudinal clamps are operated by worm gearing, or by a rack movable axially in similar manner to the yoke 35. Different shaving clearances may be provided by slots 13 of different widths or by cranking differently the bridges 14 to off-set the guard-bars 11 from the base 10.
