Abstract

457,507. Projectiles. CRAVEN, T. A., 21, Stanah Gardens, Thornton-le-Fylde, Lancashire. July 1, 1935, No. 18718. [Class 9 (i)] An incendiary projectile comprises in combination an outer shell A in one with a nose - piece containing a spring-controlled plunger G, a base-piece B in one with a fusible container F containing an incendiary charge and a central rod D connecting the base-piece B with the top C of the container, a percussion cap E on the top of the container, leaf springs H on the base-piece, and radially extensible members I normally confined within the basepiece. When the projectile hits a target, the percussion cap E is fired by the plunger G and this results in the ignition of the incendiary charge and the ejection of the base-piece and incendiary container from the outer shell, which continues its flight, while the ejected parts are retained at the hole made in the target by the leaf springs H in conjunction with the members I, which extend out to a diameter greater than that of the hole formed in the target.
