457,415. Pressure meters; echosounding apparatus. SIEMENS APPARATE UND MASCHINEN GES., 4, Askanischer Platz, Berlin. Oct. 23, 1935, No. 29279. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1934. [Class 37] [See also Group XXXVIII] In a short-time measuring device for echosounding devices in which a condenser 1 is charged or discharged for the time to be measured and its p.d. at the end of the time measured so as to indicate the time period, the p.d. across the condenser is applied in a manner known per se to a thermionic amplifier 5 through an electromagnetic interrupter 7 and the amplified A.C. is connected to an A.C. measuring instrument 10. The measuring instrument may be connected to the amplifier through a rectifier 9 which may be run from the same source as the interrupter 7 or may be provided with a separate phase shifting control 12. The instrument 10 may be shunted by a variable resistance whereby the device is adjustable and initial zeroizing of the instrument 10 is obtained when a valve is changed. Two condensers can be used, one being charged or discharged while another is connected to the amplifier. Alternatively three condensers may be used cyclically in succession, one being used for the measurement whilst a second connected to the measuring device indicates the time measured in the preceding period and a third is charged or discharged to its initial potential.
