673,495. Frequency and capacitance measurements. SOC. ANON. DITE ETABLISSMENTS E. BELIN. May 15, 1950 [May 16, 1949], No. 12089/50. Class 37. [Also in Group XXXVIII] The output frequency of a single tube phase-shift oscillator is determined by the distance apart of plates 2, 3 of a linear dimension gauge condenser 1 which forms with resistance 7 the final mesh in the phase-shifting network of the oscillator. The output of the oscillator is taken through an amplifier 15 and transformer 16 and applied across series resonant circuits 17, 18 respectively tuned above and below a selected output frequency corresponding to a standard or comparison dimension between condenser plates 2, 3. The two coils 19, 20 of a ratiometer are fed with D.C. through rectifier/resistance combinations in the resonant circuits 17, 18. In use, for example with operation of the gauge condenser 1 producing an increase in frequency of the oscillator output the current through coil 19 increases and the current through coil 20 decreases so that the ratiometer pointer takes up a position indicative of the dimension undergoing measurement. As shown, a centre-zero milliammeter may be used instead of the ratiometer.
