457,180. Stringed musical instruments. SIMPSON, H. H., 44, High Street, Bushey, Hertfordshire. May 21, 1935, No. 14794. [Class 88 (ii)] Melody strings 2, bass strings 3, and chord string-groups 3<1> are mounted for plucking on a soundboard 1 with transverse bars 4 which, when depressed against spring action, stop the melody strings chromatically and simultaneously damp out certain of the harmony strings. The melody strings sound a note and its octave and may be in tricord. The chords free to be sounded may be indicated on the surfaces of the respective bars 4. The bars 4 carry, on their underside, brass strips (felted at the upper side) for stopping the melody strings, and felt strips for damping the harmony strings. Free vibration of the melody strings is checked by a small damper bar which may be held out of action during tuning. The lid 9 serves as a music rest.
