457,132. Hydraulic transmission of power. WEBB, C. H., 22, St. Mary's Crescent, Hendon, and HIGHT, G. F., 26, Blockley Road, North Wembley, both in Middlesex. May 23, 1935, No. 15034. [Class 69 (ii)] Apparatus for the hydraulic transmission of power comprises a driving- shaft a, Fig. 1, having pivotally mounted thereon a series of vanes f immersed in a liquid contained in a driven member g, k, the said vanes being adapted to be rocked about their pivots under the direct action of centrifugal force. the vanes are pivoted at intervals in rings e splined on the shaft a, the vanes being cut away at n to accommodate the rings and to provide trunnion-like bearings m. The vanes may be wedge-shaped rectangular, convex or concave in cross-section and in all cases have convex tips; moreover they may be provided with internal ducts or peripheral grooves, may be apertured just below the trunnion-axis, and may be made of more than one material. The internal surface of the member g may be grooved. The apparatus may be combined with the reversing-gear shown in Fig. 11, a fly-wheel structure 18 being carried by the driving-shaft a. The driving- medium may be a liquid or a semi-liquid, for instance, oil mixed with mercury or with a finely-divided material such as lead.
