455,953. Heel protectors. FRIEDRICH, H., 54, Feldstrasse, Kiel, Germany. Feb. 5, 1936, No. 3395. [Class 17 (iii)] An exchangeable tread piece i for heels is provided with a fastening clip k comprising two cramp irons p connected together and forming slots l with the tread piece. To the heel a is secured a heel piece b into which are recessed two metal plates c, h, the former being provided with a rectangular hole d having its corners recessed at e, and the latter having a rectangular hole f slightly longer than the holed. A rectangular sheet metal bolt n of approximately the same shape and size as the hole f is provided with a central hole s to engage a fitting tool, and lugs n to limit the projection of the ends of the bolt when placed in the slots l of the fastening clip. Before the tread piece is secured to the heel, the middle of the bolt is bent downwards, as in Fig. 3. The tread piece is then placed in position with the clip k projecting through the hole d. By means of the end q of the fitting tool, inserted through the hole o in the tread piece, the bolt is straightened and the tread piece secured. To release the tread piece, the middle of the bolt is bent upwards by means of the other end r of the fitting tool, the projection t engaging the hole s in the bolt, and ensuring that both ends of the bolt are withdrawn. A recess g is provided in the heel to allow the bolt to be bent.
